Where to stay while at Mwea National Reserve
There is a shortage of accommodation facilities in Mwea National Reserve due to fewer visitors, turn up, and short stays.
The Reserve is located within Mbeere District, in Eastern Province, a distance of about 200km from Nairobi. The savannah ecosystem consists of small hills with bushy vegetation and scattered large trees. Other areas are open grasslands while along the main rivers, large trees with thick undergrowth are found. The main features are the meeting point of rivers Tana and Thiba, Kamburu and Masinga hydro-electric dams, which harbor a variety of biodiversity.
Camping is the most case of accommodation here, as there is no lodge inside or outside the park.
Camping can be done inside the park, at the park campsite. For those who love an outdoor adventure of camping, you will enjoy your stay here as the park is totally wild and intact, unspoiled. You need to come with enough water, and food for your stay here, as you may fail to get from the nearby place. Make sure you pack enough for your stay during your adventure visit here.
The reserve has seven campsites, and they have not crowed as it receives few visitors to the park, majority of the tourists preferring bigger safari Game Park for greater wild adventures and spottings. The Seven camps include: Mbogo, Silvester, Mavuria, Kyangosi, Hippo-Point, Kanyonga, and Githechu.
However, you can stay at Masinga lodge – Masinga Dam and Camping facilities found at Mbogo, Silvester, Mavria, Kyangosi, Hippo point, and Kanyonga.

Visitors are welcome to visit Mwea National Reserve is open all year. The entry is via cash or Mpesa payable at the gate.
What to Take With You
Drinking water, camping equipment, and picnic items if you intend to stay overnight. Also useful are: binoculars, camera, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and guidebooks.
