Overview
Ten days is enough to see all four of Rwanda’s national parks properly, and this trip takes them in the order the roads make sense rather than the order a brochure would.
You start with Akagera National Park in the east, two and a half hours from Kigali, where the savannah, lakes and rolling hills hold the Big Five. Akagera is not a gorilla park and it does not pretend to be; it is classic game-drive country, and the boat safari on Lake Ihema is the part guests remember. From there you cross the country to Nyungwe, an ancient montane rainforest with thirteen primate species, for chimpanzee tracking and the canopy walkway suspended above the forest floor.
The road north to Musanze runs along Lake Kivu, so we break the drive with a boat trip and a night on the water. Then the reason most people come: gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, followed by golden monkeys in the bamboo the next morning. Permits are capped daily and sell out months ahead in the dry seasons. We hold yours before you fly.
