Your 3 Days Akagera National Park Wildlife Safari offers an immersive experience in Rwanda’s only savannah ecosystem, located in the Eastern Province along the border with Tanzania. Akagera National Park provides a classic African game drive setting, characterized by open plains, rolling hills, lakes, and acacia woodlands. The park is proudly home to the Big Five, following the successful reintroduction of lions and black rhinos, restoring its full wildlife status. During this 3 Days Akagera National Park Wildlife Safari, you will have excellent opportunities to encounter elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes such as impalas and kobs, as well as hippos and crocodiles along the lakeshores. Predators including lions and, on rare occasions, leopards may also be spotted. Beyond large mammals, Akagera is a haven for birdlife, hosting hundreds of species across diverse habitats. The park’s varied landscapes, rich flora, and abundant wildlife create a rewarding and well balanced safari experience, delivering both scenic beauty and exceptional game viewing within Rwanda.

Day by Day
After a relaxed breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by your professional safari guide for a short briefing before departing Kigali in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser to Akagera National Park. The scenic drive of approximately two and a half hours offers beautiful rolling landscapes, with optional photo stopovers along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy a short en route game drive before checking in for lunch. Later, embark on an evening game drive, followed by dinner and an exciting night safari in search of nocturnal wildlife including leopards, hyenas, and hippos.
Following an early breakfast at 6:00 am, you will depart for a sunrise game drive in Akagera National Park, an ideal time to encounter both nocturnal predators returning from the hunt and herbivores beginning their day. The park’s diverse ecosystems support a remarkable concentration of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelope species, as well as the reintroduced lions and rhinos. With over 500 recorded bird species, Akagera also stands out as a premier birding destination. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed for a scenic boat safari on Lake Ihema. This tranquil excursion offers excellent opportunities to observe hippos and crocodiles in the water or along the shores, as well as buffaloes and elephants gathering near the lake. Following the boat experience, you will begin your drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be transferred either to your hotel or directly to the airport in time for your afternoon departure flight. This concludes your safari experience.
