Overview
Three days is a short window for Murchison Falls, and we build this trip around the two things that make the journey worth it: the boat safari up the Victoria Nile to the base of the falls, and the hike to the top where the whole river is forced through a gorge seven meters wide.
Murchison Falls National Park sits in the northwest of Uganda on Lake Albert. It is Uganda’s largest park and holds four of the Big Five, so game drives turn up elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe and Uganda kob on the open savannah north of the river. There are no rhino in the park itself. Over 450 bird species have been recorded here, and the delta is one of the more reliable places in Africa to see a shoebill.
Be clear about the driving. It is roughly five hours from Kampala each way on the first and last days, which leaves one full day in the park. If you have a fourth day, we would use it here rather than anywhere else.
