Overview
This is the fastest way to trek gorillas in Uganda. Flying into Kigali rather than Entebbe cuts the road journey to Bwindi from two days to about four hours, which is why the trip can be done in two.
Day one is the drive: out of Kigali, across the border, and up into the hills of southwestern Uganda through terraced farmland and tea. Day two is the trek. You are briefed at the park headquarters at dawn, then follow trackers into the forest. Finding the family takes anywhere from one to seven hours round trip, and you get one hour with them once you do.
Bwindi is old, dense rainforest and it holds far more than gorillas: thirteen primate species, and birding along the trails that turns up great blue turaco, black-and-white casqued hornbill and Albertine Rift endemics. If the timing works on the return leg, we stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the resting place of more than 250,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
- Day 1
Kigali – Bwindi (Travel Time +5hrs)
You will be picked by our guide or company representative from airport upon arrival or your hotel of residence, have a city tour at the Kigali genocide memorial and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in South Western Uganda. En-route view of the beautiful scenery, terraced farming to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park home to half of the endangered mountain gorilla. Dinner and overnight at the booked accommodation.

Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi and Transfer Back to Kigali
Early morning cup of coffee, then prepare for the briefing from the Uganda wildlife officials and thereafter enter the jungle to search the shy mountain gorillas and enjoy their life style in their real home. After meeting the gorillas, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour gazing into their big round eyes. On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sun screen and hut. The gorilla tracking experience takes half or whole day depending on the movement of these primates. After this gorilla tracking experience in Uganda you will have informative memorable experience in life. In the afternoon you will have lunch and transfer back to Kigali and either be dropped at your lodge or at the airport to catch up with your evening/ night flight.
