Tourist Attractions in Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Udzungwa Mountains National Park provides a great sanctuary for fascinating attractions which inhabit in its beautiful mountainous landscape that is mostly filled with dense tropical rainforests. Birdlife

Some of these bird species are peculiar to the Udzungwa Mountains and they include ‘the globally threatened Udzungwa forest partridge which is recorded as very rare in the region and features among many other unusual species, such as the Iringa Akalat, white-winged Apalis, this may be seen feeding among other birds on the forest floor. The recently discovered Rufous red-winged sunbird has also been spotted in the park usually joining two other very rare species of sunbird which are the Amani sunbird and the banded-green sunbird and other various bird species commonly seen even in other places.

Mammals

Apart from providing habitat to about 12 species of primates and numerous bird species, the park’s Luhomero plateau contains populations of mammals that you maybe able to spot such as elephants, buffaloes, lions, hunting dogs, leopards, bushbucks, duikers, palm civets, miombo genets,  giant elephant shrews, and hyenas, there are also reptile and amphibian species with the forest geckos cnemaspis uzungwae and frog phrynobatrachus uzungwensis being endemic to the region, you may also find smaller denizens of the park like the delicate butterflies.

Waterfalls

Udzungwa’s exhilarating and magnificent Sanje Waterfalls, which plunges 170 meters (550 feet) through a misty spray into the forested valley are one of the main attractions in the park that most tourists take a hike to just go and enjoy the spectacular and rewarding views.  These fascinating waterfalls drop in three stages 200m, 70m, and 40m collectively which makes the most of attractive sceneries for tourists. Below the waterfalls are plunge water pools where one can take a swim from to refresh themselves from the hot sunny hike as they watch the beautiful fall dropping.
