How Much Does a Tanzania Safari Cost Per Person?
October 27, 2026
By the Enclose Africa Safaris planning team, Arusha, Tanzania. Last updated October 27, 2026.
Short answer: A private Tanzania safari with Enclose Africa Safaris starts from about $1,575 per person for 3 days in the Serengeti, $3,582 per person for 7 days on the northern circuit, and $4,585 to $5,953 per person for 9 to 12 days. That is roughly $400 to $525 per person per day, with park fees, lodges, meals, a private vehicle and a guide included. Your lodge tier, travel month and group size set the final price.

What is included in the price?
On our Tanzania itineraries the starting price typically covers:
- A private 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof for game viewing
- An English-speaking driver-guide for the whole safari
- Park entrance fees and the Ngorongoro Crater fees
- Accommodation in lodges or tented camps
- Full board meals while on safari
- Bottled water in the vehicle
- Airport transfers
- Flying doctors emergency evacuation cover, on many itineraries
The exact list differs a little from trip to trip, so read the Inclusions section on each tour page. For a full breakdown of what “all inclusive” means on a Tanzania safari, see what is included in an all-inclusive Tanzania safari.
What changes the price of a Tanzania safari?
1. Lodge tier
Every day of every itinerary on our site lists three accommodation options: Midrange, Luxury and High-End. The vehicle, guide, parks and game drives stay the same. The lodge is what changes, and it is the biggest single lever on price. On the 7-day northern circuit, for example, a night in the central Serengeti can be at New Baobab Central Serengeti Camp (Midrange), Itika Wilderness Camp (Luxury) or Melia Serengeti (High-End).
We compare the three tiers in detail in luxury vs midrange Tanzania safari.
2. Number of days in the parks
Park fees in northern Tanzania are charged per person per day, and a lodge night is the other big daily cost. That is why price rises fairly steadily with trip length. The Serengeti is also a long drive from Arusha, so a trip that includes it needs at least 6 to 7 days to be worth the cost. See how many days you need for a Tanzania safari.
3. Season
Many lodges charge more in the peak months, usually from late June through October and over the December holidays, when the Great Migration and the long dry season draw the most travelers. The wet months from April into May are generally the lowest-priced time of year. Your quote is built on your actual travel dates.
4. Group size
Our Tanzania safaris are private. The cost of the vehicle and guide is split among everyone traveling, so a group of four pays less per person than a couple on the same itinerary. Families should ask about child rates; see our 12-day private family safari for a trip built around children.
5. Flying instead of driving
A light-aircraft flight between Arusha and the Serengeti saves most of a day each way, but it adds to the cost. It is worth it on short trips or when the herds are in the far northern Serengeti. See getting to Serengeti National Park.
What is not included?
Plan separately for:
- International flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport or Dar es Salaam
- Visa for Tanzania (most US and UK travelers need one; check current requirements before you book)
- Travel insurance, including medical cover
- Tips for your guide and lodge staff
- Drinks at lodges, unless your lodge includes them
- Laundry and personal expenses
- Optional activities not on the itinerary, such as a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti
How much does it cost to add Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro?
Two of the most common add-ons have their own published trips:
- Safari plus Zanzibar beach: the 11 Days Tanzania Honeymoon Safari and Zanzibar Beach starts from $5,092 per person. More beach options are in our guide to Zanzibar safaris.
- Safari plus a Kilimanjaro climb: the 11 Days Kilimanjaro Trek with Big Five Safari starts from $4,867 per person. See combining Kilimanjaro with a Tanzania safari.
Kilimanjaro climb-only routes are quoted on request, because the price depends on the route, the number of days and the group size.
