10 days Tanzania classic wildlife and cultural journey
- Duration
- 10 Days
- Price
- From $5,261 pp
Overview
This is the northern circuit done at a sensible pace, with one detour most operators skip.
You start in Arusha, then Tarangire for its elephant herds and baobabs, with both a day and a night game drive, which few Tanzanian parks permit. Next the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed caldera holding around 25,000 large animals inside 260 square kilometers, and the best chance on this trip of seeing black rhino. Then the Serengeti for two full days, where the plains hold resident predators all year and, depending on the month, the migration herds as well.
The detour is Lake Natron. It is a hard, hot drive off the tourist circuit to a caustic soda lake at the foot of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the only active carbonatite volcano on earth, and the breeding ground for most of East Africa’s lesser flamingos. You walk to a waterfall in the gorge and spend time with Maasai families who live there. Nobody goes to Natron by accident, and it is the part of this trip guests talk about afterwards.
