The lodge sits along the banks of the Naro Moru River that flows from the Lewis Glacier on Mount Kenya through Naro Moru town and ends up in the Ewaso Ngiro River. Kenya, a tennis court, a half basketball court, one squash court, and a sauna to unwind from the long hikes that are possible on the extensive grounds and Mt. Kenya treks. In addition, there are ample opportunities to interact with the surrounding community through biking or half-day trips, visit animal conservancy like OlPejeta, take time to retrace Kenyan history to Mau Mau Caves, Barden Powell grave, bird watching, and mountain hiking. Ol Pejeta House

Once the exclusive ranch house of multi-millionaire Adnan Kashoggi, this magnificently presented the house stands at the center of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Set in extensive grounds, with glorious views of Mount Kenya, this opulent mansion features a series of reception rooms, including an elegant drawing room with baronial fireplace and a series of scenic verandas, which extend right around the house. The imposing dining room is served by its own dedicated chef and kitchens, and menus can be tailored exactly to suit our guests’ wishes. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is host to all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and leopard), has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy program, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.

Ikweta Safari Camp

This terrific place is just outside Meru National Park, 2.5km from Murera Gate on the road in from Meru, so you can be inside the park in minutes. The semi-luxurious tents (with wi-fi) are outrageously good value and put to shame many tented camps that charge so much more for so much less. The more-than-300 indigenous plants need a little time to mature, but when they do, this place will be even better. Most of the food served is grown in engaging host Susan’s garden and is delicious. Even if you are not staying at the camp, you can make a booking to come for lunch or dinner. The name ‘ikweta’ is Swahili for ‘equator’.

Serena Sweetwaters

Located on the plains of Mount Kenya, the camp features thirty-nine luxury tents, each with its own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager’s house of this once colonial farm and offers both regional and international cuisine. Also within the house is the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, which centers on a blazing log fire. The Waterhole Bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, overlooks the waterhole and offers unrivaled wildlife-watching.
