This carefully designed itinerary takes you to Akagera National Park and Volcanoes National Park, delivering a remarkable blend of classic savannah wildlife encounters and extraordinary primate experiences. In Akagera National Park, you will enjoy thrilling game drives across diverse landscapes of open plains, wetlands, and rolling hills. The park is home to the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos, as well as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and a rich variety of birdlife. A boat safari on Lake Ihema further enhances your wildlife viewing experience. Your journey continues to Volcanoes National Park, world-renowned for its mountain gorillas. Day by Day
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and after completing immigration and luggage formalities, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari driver guide. Following a short introduction and briefing about your upcoming adventure, you will begin your journey in the Land of a Thousand Hills. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a brief orientation drive through Kigali before being transferred to your pre booked accommodation for check in, relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay in comfort.
After your relaxed breakfast at the lodge, you will be picked by our safari driver guide, who will transfer you the Akagera national park for big game viewing safari. Akagera national park, is the only Rwanda Savannah Park which is known for the big five game viewing in Eastern Rwanda on the border with Tanzania, it will give you a chance to spot number of wildlife and bird species. You will check in for lunch at your accommodation and later in the afternoon head for a sun set boat trip on lake Ihema, where you will have great opportunity to spot a number of hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes, wallowing along the water bank, and number of bird species such as the pelican, pied king fisher’s, darters and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
After an early morning breakfast, you will depart the lodge with your packed lunch for an extensive full day game drive in the park. Setting out at sunrise allows you to capture beautiful morning light and observe the early risers as wildlife becomes active in the cool hours of the day. As you traverse the diverse landscapes, your guide will strategically navigate through prime wildlife viewing areas in search of lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and many other species that inhabit the park. The experience offers exceptional photography opportunities and close encounters with Rwanda’s remarkable savannah wildlife. You will enjoy your picnic lunch at a designated scenic spot within the park before continuing your exploration. In the late afternoon, you will gradually make your way back to the lodge, arriving in time to relax, enjoy dinner, and overnight in comfort.
After an early morning buffet breakfast in Akagera National Park, you will proceed with check out and begin your scenic drive toward the Northern Province of Rwanda. The journey offers changing landscapes, from open savannah to rolling green hills. An en route lunch will be arranged at a carefully selected restaurant along the way. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Volcanoes National Park, where you will check in at your lodge and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters, where you will meet your ranger for a briefing on the code of conduct while with the gorillas. With the assistance of the porters, you will embark on a trek into the forest in search of these magnificent primates. The trek may take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas and the pace of your group. Once you locate the gorillas, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to observe and spend a maximum of one hour with them in their natural habitat. After this unforgettable experience, you will trek back to the starting point, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch, and after lunch visit Ibyiwacu cultural village to experience the unique culture for Rwandans.
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a detailed briefing before commencing your golden monkey trekking experience. Similar to gorilla trekking, you will be allocated to a specific group and guided into the forest by experienced rangers. Once the golden monkeys are located, you will spend one hour observing and photographing them in their natural habitat. After the trek, you will return for lunch and transfer to Kigali, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial before dinner and overnight.
After enjoying an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward departure flight. Our team will ensure a timely and seamless transfer in accordance with your flight schedule. Depending on your departure time, you may have the opportunity to enjoy a brief Kigali city tour, offering last minute sightseeing or souvenir shopping. Thereafter, you will proceed to the airport for check in and conclude your memorable Rwanda experience.
