You may be wondering about, how to get to Mwingi National Reserve. But here we bring it all to you.

Mwingi National reserve is located in the Mwingi district in northeastern Kenya and covers an area of approximately 745 sq km in the north of Kenya and is less toured by tourists. North of Mwingi town, is the reserve (formerly Kitui North National Reserve), which borders Meru National Park and Kora National Park

The traditional game viewing is limited and other activities such as camel riding, fly camping and horseback safaris have been allowed as it has been designated a Wilderness Activity Zone by Kenya Wildlife Service. The reserve is being maintained by the county of Mwingi National Reserve.

The reserve can be accessed by road through Thika to Mwingi then north-east through Kyuso village, or from Meru National Park through Adamson’s Bridge via Kora National Park. The drive is roughly 4 -5 hour’s from Nairobi to Mwingi National Reserve. A small bridge connects the park with the neighboring Meru National Park. A fully-equipped 4×4 is essential. If on an independent trip, it is advisable to travel with a companion.

An alternative route is through Meru National Park on Adamson Bridge.

By Air and Airstrips

The park can be accessed by 3 strips, Kyethoni airstrip, Kampi ya Simba airstrip and Masanduku airstrip in Meru National Park.

There are efforts by the Mwingi County council to increase accessibility to this Kenya reserve and building walking trails in the reserve together with the Kenya Wildlife Association

Tip: This reserve is on the hotter side of Kenya, so ensure you are well stocked up with enough water as it is very hot/humid. Plan to be there for a day in advance, to explore all the places, such that you can enjoy the best of this park. A night in the park is wonderful. Note, there are no accommodation in the park yet. You will need to camp, or drive to Meru.

Talk to the Enclose Africa Safaris team before your trip to know how the roads to the reserve are (they get easily damaged by the rains) before you set off for your trip to the park.
