How to get to Lake Bogoria National Reserve
Lake Bogoria is located 250km/155mi from Nairobi. Bogoria is mostly visited as a side trip from Nakuru. There are two ways of how to get to Lake Bogoria National Reserve.
By road
There are three access roads to the reserve through three gates at Loboi, Maji Moto, and Emsos. The main access is along the Nakuru-Marigat road where three Kilometres before Marigat town is a junction to the right towards
The Loboi Gate which also serves as the reserve headquarters is 20 km from this junction. Earth the road that branches off to the right near Mogotio Shopping Centre, 36 Km from Nakuru town leads to the other two gates. The southern entrance to the reserve is located 38km/23mi north of Lake Nakuru – a 4WD is essential. The sealed road from Nakuru to the northern entrance is 150km/93mi.
Most visitors to Kenya come through Nairobi, which is one of the largest transport hubs on the continent. International flights arrive in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), 15km/9mi southeast of Nairobi, about 5hours by car.
The drive was around 5 hours and some parts of the road were flooded. 4×4 wheel is recommended. You will see thousands of pink flamingos just next to the shore and you can walk close to them and get good photos. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity so it is worth going despise the long drive. If you are a Flamingo Lover that is your place.
Access by air
The Reserve can be accessed by air through airstrips in Lake Baringo and then by road through the Marigat junction. You will need a good 4WD car to aces the park well, as the roads are rough. However, a non-gazetted and unclassified airstrip that can be used by light aircraft is located at the Northern part of the reserve near the Loboi gate.
