Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is located in Kisumu District of Nyanza province 3km from Kisumu City near the Hippo point, the sanctuary is a small gazetted area providing a home to the rare threatened wildlife species, its close proximity almost within Kisumu town makes it easier for tourists who are already in the town to visit the sanctuary, however, one should know how to Get to Kisumu Impala Sanctuary for easy accessibility and well, the arrangement of your safari adventure.

There are three different ways on how to get to Kisumu Impala Sanctuary from Nairobi which is the biggest transport hub and main entry point for international visitors coming to Kenya, Kisumu town where the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is a port city located in the far western parts of Kenya, in the former Nyanza Province and accessibility to this town, is by air, water or road transportation.

Getting there!

From Nairobi the easiest way on How to get to Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is by using air transport, there are regularly scheduled flights linking Nairobi city to Kisumu at the Kisumu International airport. The airport operated by different airlines such as Kenya Airways, Jambo jet, fly 540 and Silverstone Air.  These flights usually, take one hour to Kisumu and upon reaching in Kisumu you can use ground transportation taking a few minutes to reach the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary.

By road

Road transport is another different way on getting to the sanctuary, though not so much recommended if you are leaving from Nairobi, this is because of the long-distance but it is cheaper for budget travelers. Kisumu is located 380 Kilometers North of Nairobi, the sanctuary is 3 km from Kisumu near Hippo Point. Traveling by road is recommended during the day while unsafe at night, take Chimoro Road towards Gitaru, then turn onto A104 (Waiyaki Way) past Naivasha and Nakuru, about 30 km past Nakuru, turn left onto B1 towards Kisumu. This road trip can take from 5 to 12 hours depending on your stopovers due to the scenic views of lakes Nakuru, Naivasha, and Kericho. After reaching in Kisumu town, it is so near to the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary, visitors driving usually use the Sitatunga gate whereas walk-in visitors are advised to use the Main gate,  a new gate (Sunset Gate) connecting the sanctuary with Sunset Hotel has been opened to ease access by the guests from the Hotel. Optional different public buses such as easy coach, modern coast among others operate daily routes from Nairobi to Kisumu and these usually take roughly 8 hours to reach Kisumu town.

By Water

Kisumu is a port city and thus it is linked by ferry with Kendu Bay, Homa Bay, and Mbita as well as to neighboring countries which can be used as an alternative way on getting to the sanctuary through accessing Kisumu city by water transport.
