How long does it take to hike Mount Kilimanjaro

How long does it take to hike Mount Kilimanjaro? It is a good question majority of tourists ask when they planning to hike Mount Kilimanjaro routes and their variations take between five to nine days to complete. Although Mount Kilimanjaro is known as a “walk-up” mountain, you should not underestimate it and its risks. The overall statistics show that less than half of all climbers reach the summit. Depending on which route you take or which gate you start from will determine the length of each climb. There are several routes to choose from.

  • Lemosho route: It is the longest the route to climb Kilimanjaro and considerably the beautiful routes with the best scenic views.
  • Machame route: The route with best summit rates. It is among well-known routes on Kilimanjaro treks.
  • Marangu route: This route is called as Coca-cola route and it is the only route which offers permanent huts as accommodation.
  • Rongai route: It climbs from the north-eastern side of the mountain and has the unspoiled wilderness.

You can also go on Mount Meru trek which is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa.

LEMOSHO ROUTE

We offer a 10 and 9-day (private) Lemosho climb. This includes an arrival and departure day. We add the travel days so clients are not arriving on the first day of the climb. In fact, we recommend that you come in at least one day earlier. This also gives you a day to recover from the long flight.

For the 10-Day Lemosho route, you will be on the mountain for 8 days. For the 9-day Lemosho, you’ll be trekking for 7 days.

NORTHERN CIRCUIT

We offer an 11-day Northern Circuit climb. For this trek, you’ll be on the mountain for 9 days.

RONGAI ROUTE

For the Rongai route, we offer both an 8-day private or group climb. Which will be 6 days on the mountain and a 9-day private climb, which is 7 days on the mountain.

MACHAME ROUTE

For the Machame route, we offer both an 8-day private—which will be 6 days on the mountain. And a 9-day private or group climb, which is 7 days on the mountain.

MARANGU ROUTE

For the Marangu route, we offer an 8-day private climb, which is 6 days on the mountain. In conclusion, the length of time it takes to climb Kilimanjaro is directly affected by the route you choose.  All the routes have their pros and cons. However, there are two routes that we recommend. We recommend them for several reasons.

The first is the 9 day Lemosho route due to it having fewer people, spectacular views, and a more than 90% success rate.

The second route is the 11-day Northern route. Like we mentioned above, it has amazing views. It also has an over 90% success rate and it has the fewest number of climbers.
