Kora’s undeniable beauty is a great attraction on its own. A gloriously wild and remote landscape with fantastic vistas across equatorial Kenya and wonderful wildlife.

Pay tribute to George Adamson

You will find his grave in the Kora National Park near his brother Terance (whom he was very close to) and two lions Super Cub and Mugi, a lion released into Kora after George’s death. These days also the Kenyan base of George’s assistant Tony Fitzjohn, now a conservationist in his own right.

Fishing at Tana River

Fishing is good on the rivers with catches like Tilapia and perch, over 21 species of fish are caught in the Tana River. The park is a habitat for 500 insect species, mollusks, and more than 40 different reptiles.

Explore Natural trails.

Discover the hidden beauty of nature here, as you take a breakaway in the wilderness. The treasure of hidden secrets of nature can be experienced in this park, as it’s totally lost into the wilderness. The park is totally and rarely visited, meaning nature is intact. Take a walking safari, and feel the real wilderness as you discover this beautiful park.

Visit Tana River

The Tana River in all her majesty looks inviting, but you would be wise to not take the plunge, as she’s filled with a large number of crocs.

Gaming at the park

The park is filled with several games such as elephants, cheetahs, wild dogs, striped and spotted hyenas, leopards, lesser kudu, genet, hippos, caracal, lion, serval and very many other small mammals. You can visit the abundant game park at any time of the year for Game viewing and rock climbing.

Camping adventure

Enjoy a wonderful camping adventure at Kora National Park campsite. This picnic site also has flushing toilets and cold showers (a relief from that heat!)

As the sunset, you’d think the temperature would drop, but you’d be wrong, and with the darkness came lots of bugs! But the night sky made up for that, literally stars, on stars and stars!

Visit Kampi Ya Simba

Kampi Ya Simba it feels surreal that not so long ago this camp housed George’s lions. This very place is where he raised them, taught them how to hunt, and eventually returned them to the wild. Reality hit when we see the lion enclosure and some pretty torn up tires hanging from a tree. Kampi Ya Simba is open for anyone who wishes to visit it (you must go with a KWS ranger), but if you want to spend a night consult with the caretaker beforehand. There are no set costs for anyone who visits and stays at Kampi Ya Simba, just pay the caretaker an amount that you feel appropriate. This, of course, should be based on how many people there are in your group and how many nights you plan to stay.

Climb Kora rocks

If you’re feeling adventurous you can climb Kora rock, to really take in the beauty of the park. You can have a lovely moment here overlooking the park, as you can take great photos from the stunning views of the park.

Tip: Kora is on the hotter side of Kenya, so ensure you are well stocked up with enough water as it is very hot/humid. Plan to be there for a day in advance, to explore all the places, such that you can enjoy the best of this park. A night in the park is wonderful. Note, there are no accommodation in the park yet. You will need to camp, or drive to Meru.

Talk to the Enclose Africa Safaris team before your trip to know how the roads to Kora National Park are (they get easily damaged by the rains) before you set off for your trip to the park.
