Dhow cruise safaris
Explore the ocean with a local dhow sailed by a local fisherman and you explore the islands around. Both morning and evening cruises can be arranged.
We can arrange for a local sailing boat to take you out for the day and experience a fun day out, with a packed picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the islands. You can as well go fishing with the dhow.
Bird Watching
There is a large variety of water birds as well as dry country scrub species. A true spectacle is the flocks of northern carmine bee-eaters that seasonally roost on the mangrove islands, making for incredible evening viewing.
Culture & People.
Mingle with the local community as you explore the area to discover their culture. It is now a World Heritage Site and is one of the oldest continually inhabited towns in East Africa and well worth a visit if you enjoy architecture and a walk back in time. Takwa Ruins is an old settlement site and accessible on a high tide by boat.
Wildlife
Whilst most of the animals are nocturnal including the greater Galago bushbaby, white-tailed mongoose, civet cat, porcupine, hyaena, genet and occasionally leopard, we do see dik-dik, bush pig, buffalo, elephants, and bushbuck.
Beach-Combing
At low tide, there is 3 km of the beach where you can walk. Occasionally you might see a local fisherman but no-one else. You can take a walk around the beach, and enjoy a wonderful time, throwing stones in the water, as you enjoy just the beauty of the water.
Water Sports adventures
The ocean is known for its excellent boating activities. Paddleboards and kayaks are available for use all day, whilst windsurfing and Laser Sailing are available for proficient sailors or accompanied by one of our staff. At an extra cost, waterskiing, banana rides and inflatable tube rides, line fishing, fly-fishing, bottom fishing, and snorkeling are available – and provide hours of fun! A week-long kite surfing course, instructed by a professional instructor, can be arranged at a fee.
