Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: KIGALI CITY TOUR

After your relaxed morning breakfast, you drive and visit the Kigali genocide memorial ground, where over 250000 victims of the 1994 genocide incident were buried in a mass grave. You will watch the video clips, and walk around to see some of the written stories about the incidence. You will later drive south of Kigali heading to Ntarama and Nyamata genocide memorial sites which is roughly a 45 minutes’ drive. These two sites will give you a great picture of the entire genocide incidence. As you will be able to get fresh information about how the entire genocide started. Ntarama’s former Catholic Church is now a memorial site. 5,000 people were massacred there on 15 August 1994 during the Rwanda Genocide. This memorial center is one of six major centers’ in Rwanda that commemorates the Rwanda Genocide. You will later head to visit Nyamata and its surrounding region suffered some of the most extensive devastation, horrifying violence that took place in 1994 against the Tutsi and moderate Hutus. This is a placed believed as the starting point of genocide in 1994 and over 10,000 of victims were believed to be killed in a catholic church. After visiting Nyamata memorial site, you will proceed for lunch before driving back to Kigali with an authentic experience of the real genocide situation after listening to number of the stories with its impact that can be vividly observed. You will head and visit the Kimironko local market before being dropped off at your hotel.

Day 2: TRANSFER TO AKAGERA FOR A FULL DAY GAME DRIVE. TRAVEL TIME+2HRS

Upon having your early morning breakfast, you will drive to Akagera national park to catch up with late hunters and early risers. We will be searching for the big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos. The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and a number bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will later have your picnic lunch, as you precede with your drive for more wildlife sightings in the park. You will return in the late evening to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: TRANSFER BACK TO MUSANZE. TRAVEL TIME +5 HOURS

You will leave the lodge with after your breakfast at 6am, head for a brief game drive before you head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and with number of bird species. Later return and drive off to Musanze with and en route lunch in Kigali. You will spend the evening at your leisure at the lodge as you prepare for your next day gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 4: GOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING & CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

We will travel to the Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330m) after breakfast. We will traverse on a malachite-green slope. The chatter of the birds breaking the quiet of the world whilst clouds shaped like tufty pillows glide slowly across the sky. The parched fauna and flora of the moorland are temporarily banished as we travel through a region of wilderness. Our trek proceeds through a low desert area. The comforting aromas of your delicious hot lunch will drift through the entrance of the Mawenzi Tarn Hut. (6000m / 3-4 hour trek). Brief excursions for acclimatization may occur but the remaining hours of the afternoon will be spent lounging around the campsite.

Day 5: FULL DAY KAYAKING & TRANSFER TO THE KIGALI.

Today after having a relaxed morning breakfast, we shall head of to explore the beautiful Lake Kivu on a kayaking experience; this will be a great time to spend a full day on water as you will be filled with a great moment of relaxation as you do this crazy adventure. The lake has number of islands, and bird species with are numerously spotted. You will as well be able to spot the fishermen with their famous 3 boats, trying to do their day catch. A picnic lunch will be served. You will later in the evening be transferred back to Kigali as you wind up your 5 days safari with us, and be dropped at a place of your convenience. End of service!
