Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: TRANSFER FROM NAIROBI TO KISUMU
Today after breakfast, you will be met by our safari driver guide at your hotel residence in Nairobi who will drive you off for your journey towards Lake Victoria in the nearby Kisumu town, drive through beautiful sceneries with stopovers to get photographs and clear views, upon arrival, you will spend your evening at leisure or take a short tour around Kisumu town. Overnight and dinner at your booked accommodation.
Day 2: DEPART FROM KISUMU AND VISIT RUMA NATIONAL PARK
Today morning after your breakfast, you will depart from Kisumu with our safari driver-guide, driving through Kendu bay and Homa Bay while you unwind through beautiful rolling hills and viewing the Luo homesteads, upon reach Ruma National Park, you will access the park via Nyatoto gate and after registration, proceed for an extensive game drive to look for animals in this park. You will be able to view animal species as you drive through the flat floor of seasonal Lambwe River such as the roan antelope, which is the rarest antelope seen in this park in the whole country, oribi antelope, buffaloes, eastern black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffe, Jackson, and Lelwel hartebeest among others. When it comes to lunchtime, drive to Twiga picnic site and enjoy your lunch box while in view of other animals and later in the afternoon you will head back to the rolling grasslands for an afternoon game drive, watch out to spot a leopard, hyena and many bird species such as the globally threatened blue swallow, the park boasts over 400 bird species and reptiles with exceptional snake population and the easily spotted can be the African cobra, forest cobra, eastern green mamba, etc. you will also view a monitor lizard, gecko or skink. As it comes to evening hours. Return and relax at your campsite awaiting your dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: EARLY GAME DRIVE AND VISIT TO RUSINGA ISLAND
Today early morning, you will head for a morning Game drive before breakfast to view the early bird animals such as predators like leopard, or hyena as they move towards their prey, among others, return for breakfast and after you will head to Rusinga Island with your lunch boxes for a tour around this island. A single the dirt road is running around the island’s circumference and your drive around will bring you to Tom Mboya’s mausoleum which lies on family land at Kamasengere on the north side of the island, Tom Mboya was civil rights champion, trade unionist and charismatic young Luo politician who was gunned down in Nairobi in 1969, and his death sparked off a crisis that led to over forty deaths in widespread rioting and demonstrations.
The mausoleum contains various momentoes and gifts Mboya received during his life. After this tour enjoy your packed Lunch box at a convenient place in the Island, then drive to catch the 3 pm Ferry to Lwanda K’Otieno, passing through Akala market which is famous for cattle sale in the whole of Nyanza region to get to learn after interacting with both sellers and buyers, the tricks and preservation of this old traditional trade.
Later we will embark on the journey back to Kisumu arriving in the evening and be dropped at your hotel residence.
Day 4: TRANSFER BACK TO NAIROBI
Today morning you will be driven back to Nairobi which will end your adventure safari in Ruma National Park.
