Day 1: THE TOUR
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel accommodation at 9.00 am after having your morning breakfast and you set off to explore the Rwanda Museums. You will drive while enjoying the beautiful view of the town, chatting and sharing much about the history of Kigali, how it raised into famous being named the cleanest town in Africa. You will start your tour by visiting the Belgium museum, where 10 Belgium peacekeepers, where killed and buried, after proceed and visit Hotel des Mille Collines, previously known as Hotel Rwanda which has a strong history of the genocide incidence though now rehabilitated. You will then proceed and drive down to Kigali genocide museum, overlooking on your way, old Kigali and new Kigali. The Kigali genocide museum is the final place where the victims of the Rwandan genocide of 1994 were laid to rest in a mass ground, as to pay respect to their bodies for a decent burial.
Thereafter, catch up with lunch at African bite as you later drive to south of Kigali heading to Ntarama and Nyamata genocide memorial sites which is roughly a 45 minutes’ drive. These two sites will give you a great picture of the entire genocide incidence. As you will be able to get fresh information about how the entire genocide started. Ntarama’s former Catholic Church is now a memorial site. 5,000 people were massacred there on 15 August 1994 during the Rwanda Genocide. This memorial center is one of six major centers’ in Rwanda that commemorates the Rwanda Genocide.
You will later head to visit Nyamata and its surrounding region suffered some of the most extensive devastation, horrifying violence that took place in 1994 against the Tutsi and moderate Hutus. This is a placed believed as the starting point of genocide in 1994 and over 10,000 of victims were believed to be killed in a catholic church. After visiting Nyamata memorial site, you will proceed for lunch before driving back to Kigali with an authentic experience of the real genocide situation after listening to number of the stories with its impact that can be vividly observed.
