Pemba Island is one of the lesser known islands of the Zanzibar Archipelago, but a popular honeymoon destination. This pristine green island is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet. If you are looking for peace, rest and a romantic atmosphere, this is the place to be. A tranquil hideaway and one of the best dive sites in the world. They’re very few accommodation option at Pemba, and we bring you here a few of them.

Airport

Pemba Airport is also known as Wawi Airport or Karume Airport and connects the island to Arusha, Dar es Salaam and can also be accessed with direct local flights with several charter airlines that operate smaller aircrafts. The most frequent route is Zanzibar – Pemba, and is serviced by these airlines: The easiest way to get to Pemba is to fly in with a private aviation company like Coastal Aviation or Auric Air, both of which offer daily scheduled flights to Pemba Airport (PMA) near Chake Chake.

It could not be easier. There are two flights a day to Pemba from Zanzibar (both 30 minutes) – one at 8am and another at 3pm. Pemba being just off the shores to the North of Zanzibar makes it very accessible (only an hour from Dar es Salaam) and easy to spend a few nights on. It is worth spending a night or two in Stone Town on Zanzibar and experiencing the mixture of Arab, African and European culture before hopping over to Pemba.

Ferry

It is possible to travel between Zanzibar and Pemba on a ferry, although the safety of these vessels is disputable. The most reliable ferries are those operated by Azam Marine. If you decide to explore on your own once you’re there, use local minibuses or dala dalas to get around.
