Activities at Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park.

Unspoiled, beautiful and sun-kissed, the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park was established to protect the scenic islands and special habitats of a wide range of endemic marine animals and breeding migratory birds. It lies in the coral gardens south of Wasini Island and encompasses three small coral rag forest islands, each with considerable areas of fringing reef. Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park is one of the most rewarding snorkeling locations on the coast. The marine park is known as the “home of Dolphins”.

Visitors can enjoy a number of activities on their visit to this great marine park including;

Bird watching

Kisite Island is an important bird area, as it is a flat, treeless rocky outcrop with grass patches surrounded by sandy beaches that are exposed at low tide. It’s an ideal breeding area for roseate and sooty terns (July to September) and great habitat for pelagic feeders.

Scuba Diving

The warm, clear water with pristine corals and a myriad of fish make scuba diving here, something for beginners and professionals alike. Diving sites range from 2 m (6 ft) to 32 m (100 ft).

Snorkeling

Kisite is one of the most rewarding snorkeling locations on the coast. It is best to snorkel two hours on either side of the low tide when more marine life is active. However, the best time to visit is early morning when the sea is calm. Try snorkeling as well in the clear blue ocean, so breathtaking

Explore Shimoni Caves

Located in a small fishing village, these ancient coral caves were for centuries ‘Kayas’ or sacred sites of worship for the local communities. However, fate and history brought a darker aspect to this tranquil spot. In the 18th and 19th century the caves became pens for captured slaves on their way to the slave markets in Zanzibar. Your entrance fee will help pay the salaries of local teachers and school fees for children in need. The slaves were kept here before sailed to Zanzibar markets.

Camping.

Those who love adventure have always come here during warmer seasons to enjoy a beach camping life, with a campfire. There are a number of resorts with camping ground that facilitate those who would love to go camping. You can come with your tents, or hire at a small number of dollars from the lodges and hotels around the coast.

Sunbathing.

Seating by the beach side, and enjoy a warm coaching sun, is one of the most interesting activities here, as you have a moment to relax, your mind, and give the best of self-treat, as you enjoy the beach life, with a sweep of a glass of wine or beer, and call it a holiday well spent.

Guided walk.

You can take a guide walk to explore the coast life, visit some fishing sites, and the neighboring community, as you discover the area.

Boat trips.

Get your packed lunch ready and head of, to discover the sea, as you visit numerous islands and coast around, have a lovely moment to reach out, to some of the bird breeding sites, as you enjoy a wonderful sea breath. It was a really memorable experience seeing the dolphins. You have to be quick with your camera because they often appeared and disappeared in a few seconds.

Fishing.

Over 200 fish species are available in the water. You can decide to join the local fishermen for their daily routine fishing, or arrange for a deep seas fishing. The equipment can all be arranged for you, to go and enjoy this wonderful sea adventure.
