6 Days Tanzania Safari and Cultural Tour
- Duration
- 6 Days
- Price
- From $2,357 pp
Overview
Six days on the northern circuit with a full day given over to people rather than animals, which is unusual on a trip this short.
Tarangire comes first, for the elephant herds that gather along the river in the dry months and the baobabs they walk between. Then Lake Manyara, a narrow strip of groundwater forest and lakeshore under the Rift escarpment, known for tree-climbing lions and, in the wetter months, enormous numbers of waterbirds.
Day four is at Lake Eyasi with the Hadzabe, who still live by hunting and gathering, and the Datoga who forge their arrowheads. You go out at dawn with the hunters. It is arranged through the community and on their terms, and it is the day most guests end up talking about.
The trip closes in the Ngorongoro Crater, where around 25,000 large animals live inside a collapsed caldera and black rhino are a genuine possibility.
