Overview

Two weeks in Tanzania where the first half is spent on a bike and the second in a safari vehicle.

The cycling runs from Moshi through Marangu on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, past Lake Challa in its crater on the Kenyan border, to Nalemuru, Simba Farm and Tingatinga on the way to Arusha. These are farm tracks and rural back roads through coffee and banana country, and you ride between villages rather than past them. A support vehicle carries the bags and is there whenever you would rather not pedal a section.

Then the northern circuit proper: Tarangire, a mountain-biking morning on the Manyara escarpment, the Serengeti for two full days, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

You should be comfortable riding several hours on unpaved ground on consecutive days. It is not a race and there are no technical descents, but it is not a gentle pootle either. Tell us your riding history and we will be straight about whether the daily distances suit you.
