Overview
Four days in northern Kenya, and a pairing that shows you two very different ideas of conservation.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy sits under Mount Kenya and is the most closely managed wildlife area in the country. It holds the largest black rhino population in East Africa, and the last two northern white rhinos alive, guarded around the clock. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary here is the only place in Kenya caring for rescued chimpanzees. Game drives turn up lion, elephant and buffalo across open savannah and acacia.
Samburu National Reserve, north along the Ewaso Nyiro River, is the opposite: hot, arid, and left largely alone. The species change completely. Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk standing on their hind legs to browse, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich, none of which you will see in the Mara. Elephant come down to the river in the afternoons, and this is good leopard country.

Transfer from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta
Begin your safari adventure with a morning departure from Nairobi. After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located between the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. This scenic drive takes you through the central highlands of Kenya, offering picturesque views of the countryside. Upon arrival at Ol Pejeta, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive, exploring the conservancy’s diverse wildlife, including the Big Five, and learning about its successful rhino conservation efforts. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Game drive through Ol Pejeta, then transfer to Samburu

Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where these primates can be seen. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and check out. Depart for Samburu National Reserve, a journey that takes you north across the equator and into the arid landscapes of Samburu. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and unwind. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Samburu.

Spend the entire day exploring the unique landscapes and wildlife of Samburu National Reserve. Renowned for its rare and endemic species such as the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich, Samburu offers a distinctive safari experience. Embark on morning and afternoon game drives, taking in the striking scenery of open savannahs, rugged hills, and the Ewaso Nyiro River, which attracts a variety of wildlife. Between game drives, relax at your lodge and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. All meals and an overnight stay will be at your lodge in Samburu.

Transfer back to Nairobi from Samburu
After breakfast, check out and embark on a final game drive as you make your way out of Samburu National Reserve. This marks the end of your memorable safari adventure, having explored some of Kenya’s most diverse and unique wildlife habitats.
