Tourist Attraction in Odoinyo Lengai

The major Tourist Attraction in Odoinyo Lengai is the Odoinyo Lengai Volcano, this volcano continues to be active with its volcanic activity typically being confined to its summit producing quite emission of lava flows that fill up the deep pit summit crater of the cinder cone which occupies the active northern crater of this Odoinyo Lengai volcano. The ash deposits from the occurring eruptions whiten the volcanoes slopes like snow as they run down these slopes with the cone flank sometimes forming small landslides, the thin, silvery lava occasionally can flow faster than a person and can cause rapid alteration of flows roaring in a more dramatic fashion worth observing.

Climbing to the top of this magnificent active volcano will give you fascinating views of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro crater, Serengeti plains plus glittering views of Lake Natron right at its base.

Wildlife

Another Tourist Attraction in Odoinyo Lengai is Wildlife, The carbonatite ashes, sand, fragments of lava and slag spread over the surrounding lower level grasslands of the volcano planted in scattered vineyards and citrus, the steep higher slopes are covered with oak, birch, and beech and this has made the area uniquely succulent enriched with pasture that attracts some wildlife species especially large numbers from the wildebeest annual migration to inhabit here and the place has become a nursery  for the birth of several thousand calves.

At the base of Odoinyo Lengai Mountain lies Lake Natron which also features as an intriguing Tourist Attraction in Odoinyo Lengai.  This Lake Natron is believed to be the world’s most important breeding site for the Endangered Lesser Flamingoes that live in the Great Rift Valley, accounting for 75 percent of the global population. The soda lake sits on the lowest point of the Great Rift Valley part in East Africa and is quite shallow, less than three meters deep, and varies in width depending on its water level, its temperatures can reach more than 40 degrees Celsius where evaporation causes high alkalinity and due to the lake’s high alkaline, the environment is a barrier against predators trying to reach the flamingo nests.

Odoinyo Lengai Volcano is also some 70 miles from the city of Arusha and is known for its proximity to some of the world’s most important pale anthropological sites, it is less than 70 miles from the famed Olduvai Gorge, a collection of 3.6-million-year-old hominin footprints at a site called Laetoli and a “dance hall” of ancient Homo sapiens footprints at a site called Engare Sero and tourists can have en-route visits to these great historical places that will spice up their trip.
