How to access Aberdare National park

Aberdare The national park lies 160km northeast of Nairobi located in central highlands of Kenya east of the East African rift valley in Nyeri/Nyandarua district, and thus there are two different ways on How to Access Aberdare National Park which are by both Air and Road.

By road

Visitors to Aberdare National Park can readily get to the park through ground transportation on a tarmac road from via Thika in Nyeri and Naro Moru on the Eastern side and thus accessing the park through its eastern entrance gates. This is the easiest way on How to Access Aberdare National Park because of the well-maintained tarmac road taking roughly two to three hours driving, this the road route is approximately 150 Kilometers from Nairobi. There is also another the road that connects to the route on the western side entrances from Naivasha about 87 kilometers in the rift valley through mountain terrains and the lower slopes up to the Moorlands, the park has 5 entrance gates through which visitors can use to get into the park boundaries which include the ark and treetops gates with excellent areas for game viewing, kiandagoro, wandare and ruhuruina gates. If you are coming from Nyeri. If you approach the park from Nyahururu, you should use the Shamata or Rhino Gate. Mutubio gate is perfect for visitors coming from Naivasha. For visitors already in Nyeri town, the park headquarters are 15 Kilometers from Nyeri town and thus can use the Nyeri – Nyahururu road.

By Air

The another alternative way on how to access this park is by air, there are usually daily scheduled charter flights that operate to the nearby airstrips close to the National Park. The nearest airstrip is the Mweiga Airstrip on the opposite side from Park headquarters along Nyeri – Nyahururu road near Sasini Estate Farm, and another one is the Nanyuki Airstrip.
